Beneath the Palisades - S.Fork Big Pine Creek,
Camped out just lying in the grass
watching peaks and clouds
caught listening to the beat of the earth
the riffle of Time through a window
of granite and spires
rotating like a jagged tea cup
in the hands of indifference
casual embrace of wild mountains
steep lakes, hanging basins, icy passes
connecting places
and homes
the marriage of people and stone
cold cut and firmly placed
on the edge of the morning sky
drifting by on afternoon clouds
burning pink and softly into grey
forever and again
you can't say why the words don't sound right
what/who needs names
who can describe paradise
late glow with the big dipper
shining bright
passing another bowl
and baked like a potato
in my bag,
goodnight.
